On 1-16-2019 at 9:30 PM the Lompoc Police Department received a report from a student about a possible shooting at Lompoc Valley Middle School planned for 1-17-2019.  The shooting was alleged to occur during lunch hours.

The officers working when the call came in immediately began to investigate the alleged threat.  This investigation revealed no one had seen any written threat and no one could identify the person who made the alleged threat.  Officers contacted and interviewed several persons who had heard or had information about the alleged threat.

The Lompoc Police Department and the Lompoc Unified School District take very seriously the safety of the students and staff at our schools.  The Lompoc Police Department deployed three supervisors and five officers to the school to help the students and staff feel safe while on campus.

The investigation into the threat continued at the school in the morning resulting in over 20 interviews.  LPD detectives determined a threat was never made via social media, and the student who was initially identified on social media as a suspect did not make any threats.  This student was actually a victim of ongoing bullying.

The Lompoc Police Department would like to commend the student who placed the call to 911 to report this alleged threat to authorities.
