Fatal Traffic Accident

UPDATED RELEASE 01/01/2018 11:50 AM

A second juvenile has died from injuries in this accident. The three juveniles were riding on a dirt road between two cornfields. The two motorcycles are Kawasaki model KX250 dirt bikes. Neither motorcycle is equipped with lighting.

The 14 and 15 year old males were driving and the 16 year old was a passenger. The motorcycles were traveling in opposite directions on the same road at an undetermined speed and collided head on or near head on. All were ejected.

The 15 year old male was pronounced dead at the scene. The 14 year old was stabilized and flown to Primary Children’s Hospital but died shortly after arrival. The 16 year old was flown to Ogden Regional Hospital but was later transferred to University Hospital. He was listed in stable condition when he left Ogden Regional. No further update on his condition has been obtained.

There is no evidence of impairment by either driver. Helmets were being worn by both drivers.

At about 8:55 PM Box Elder County Communications Center received a call of an accident involving three male juveniles.

Deputies found that three male juveniles were riding two motorcycles, “dirt bikes” with no indication there were headlights on either motorcycle. The motorcycles were being operated on a farm access road at the time of the accident. There ages are 14, 15 and 16 years of age.

It appears that there were two juveniles on one motorcycle and a single juvenile on the other. There is evidence that there were at least two helmets worn but unknown by who. The motorcycles hit head on causing serious injuries to two and one was fatal at the scene.

The two with serious injuries were stabilized at the scene and transported by helicopter to area hospitals. Unknown exactly where they were taken and no report of the severity of the injuries at this time. Parents and grandparents of the victims were at the scene. No further information available at this time; will follow up with details when investigation is completed.

There was no immediate evidence of impairment at this point in the investigation.
