On December 20, 2018 at 10:21pm, Irwindale Police Officers were sent to the AmPm Store located at 16000 Foothill Blvd. in the city of Irwindale regarding a subject causing a disturbance.
On arrival, the officers encountered a heavily intoxicated man acting erratically in the store’s parking lot. The man was detained at the scene.
The officers investigation revealed that the man had stopped at the gas station with his wife and children for fuel. When the man found out that the gas pumps were not working due to remodeling, the man became enraged and began to knock over and throw items throughout the inside of the convenience store, causing significant damage.
The man walked in and out of the store several times throughout his tirade, returning each time to do more damage. The store clerk hid behind a counter and called 9-1-1. He remained in hiding until the police arrived.
Several shelves, food racks, and displays were knocked over, broken, or damaged during the man’s outburst. Containers of snacks, food, alcohol, convenience items and miscellaneous merchandise were also damaged or destroyed. Preliminary estimates value the damage at between $3,000.00 to $5,000.00.
The suspect, Alfred Martinez, a 31-year-old resident of El Monte, was arrested by Irwindale police officers for felony vandalism and public intoxication.
He was booked at the Glendora Police Department Jail, where he was held on $20,000.00 bail pending his court appearance.
