| | Roger Dehart is taking on another huge challenge to raise awareness about human trafficking in the United States. Mr. DeHart is embarking on his second walk, this time nearly 526 miles in California.
So why California? The Department of State reported California has 3 of the top 10 worst child sex trafficking areas in the United States. They include San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. That’s Why Roger will be walking from the Golden Gate Bridge, down the Pacific Coast Highway, to the University of California – San Diego, where he will meet with students.
DeHart, a Broward County Court Bailiff, started his grassroots human trafficking awareness campaign in 2018 after spending nearly 20 years watching victims testify in court against their abusers. He has seen firsthand the struggles these victims go through to pick up their lives and start over mentally and physically.
DeHart says first we must teach our children about these predators, then we must learn how to recognize these victims who are living amongst us. “The only way to bring awareness is to talk about it, in schools, at the dinner table, in our social circles and even along the roads and highways across America. Then maybe we’ll have a fighting chance at combating human trafficking” DeHart said.
