Fernando Octavio Frenes 05/30/1967
On April 4, at approximately 4:09 PM, Officers from the Bell Gardens Police Department were dispatched to the area of Eastern Avenue and Gage Avenue regarding a reported stolen vehicle (white, Chevy, Silverado). The Reporting Party (Vehicle Owner) called BGPD as he was tracking his stolen Chevy with a GPS tracking system.  At that time, Officers located the stolen Chevy in the 6300 block of Gage Avenue and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The stolen Chevy failed to yield and a pursuit ensued involving several BGPD Officers with the support of the LASD Air Unit.
The driver of the stolen Chevy, later identified as Fernando Octavio Frenes (52) of Montebello, led BGPD Officers in a 35 minute pursuit through the cities of Bell Gardens, Commerce, Montebello, Pico Rivera, East L.A and Monterey Park.  Due to public safety concerns, at approximately 4:51 PM, BGPD Officers terminated the pursuit; however, the LASD Air Unit continued to track the stolen Chevy. The stolen Chevy continued driving erratically though city streets and highways for an additional 30 minutes through the cities of Alhambra, South Pasadena and Pasadena as it was being tracked by the LASD Air Unit.
CHP located and took over the pursuit of the stolen Chevy on the 210 FWY in the City of Pasadena.  The pursuit terminated at approximately 5:18 PM in the intersection of Orange Grove Blvd., and Holly Street when the stolen Chevy broadsided an SUV.  S-Frenes was taken into custody by the CHP and Pasadena PD without further incident.  The victim and solo occupant of the SUV that S-Frenes struck was treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital in serious but stable condition.
The pursuit lasted for approximately 1 hour and 5 minutes. During the pursuit, the Suspect drove in excess of 90 MPH on city streets and highways and was involved in 4 separate traffic collisions which were documented by the corresponding agencies.
BGPD Officers responded to the scene of the collision and took custody of the suspect.  It should be noted that S-Frenes is a self-admitted gang member.  S-Frenes is on Probation under the Post Release Community Supervision program for assault and was wanted for a probation violation.  S-Frenes was charged with Grand Theft Auto, felony hit-and-run, evading a peace officer and causing serious bodily injury and violation of probation.
