Press Release

Many of you received our phone app ‘push’ and Facebook message last week regarding the arrest of Matthew Gonzales on charges of robbery.

Our investigation is now complete and in the hands of the District Attorney’s Office. The investigative details are as follows:

Early morning of April 11, 2018, our 65-year-old male victim who resides on the 300 block of Sierra St. heard a knock on his front door and subsequently opened it. He was confronted by 28-year-old Matthew Gonzales of Bishop, who had robbed him before and was prohibited from making contact with the victim per court order. Gonzales reportedly was aggressive and demanded money. When the victim refused, Gonzales held a knife to the victim’s throat. Gonzales ultimately left the residence with some cash and the victim’s debit card and PIN. Gonzales subsequently accessed the victim’s account and withdrew cash.

Local law enforcement began canvassing for Gonzales and an arrest warrant was obtained. A Sheriff’s Deputy spotted Gonzales on the afternoon of April 12, 2018, in a field north of E. Line St. Deputies and Police contained the area and made the arrest without incident. Gonzales was transported to BPD for questioning and later booked into the Inyo County Jail on the following charges:

591 PC – Destruction of phone line
